It was lightly drizzling that day, and as I pulled into my neighborhood I could see someone smiling in between my wiper blades. As I looked to my side there he was - my good old friend Hal...I wondered where he was going with his glossy White corvette which looked as if it had just been bought. He pulled the window down and said he was going to take advantage of a half-off wine special downtown and then head over to a lounge. I thought to myself...heck I might as well join him. I went home changed, showered, and did normal things that all other men do and rushed over to join him.

Downtown was fun, after all what isn't after a bottle of Malbec? I was kind of nervous heading to this new place that everyone called "Sharab." Within moments I found myself in a line of yuppies and college students who seemed to be a little more sophisticated than the rest. On one end the smell of hookah was wafting through the air, and on the other end I was standing there getting looked at by a bouncer to make sure I didn't have a fake ID. Proving that I was 21 was almost as bad as a prostate exam by a male doctor from teh same sex. After I was cleared and handcuffed with a paper wristband, I headed through the bar and up the stairs. I saw Hal on one end of the dance floor with another friend. I started chatting with them and moving my body to the rhythmic beats of the latin music. As I looked into the yonder, I noticed something, it was that girl that I had seen at the library. As she was being swung around I couldn't help but tune out and just think to myself. Was this love at first site?

“Mom! We should leave now, if not we will be late to Sharab and we’ll miss all the amazing salsa music”,  I said hurriedly. We went to Sharab every Wednesday evening but this particular Wednesday was quite different. It was still slightly wet out side and the clouds seemed to be very dark and heavy. That evening I decided to drive, while my mom relaxed in the car and chatted about the most recent Latina news.

Our arrival was as usually, the same bouncer nodded in recognition and allowed us entry passed all the yuppies and fashionably dressed summer salsa groupies. The cold air blew my hair back and the fragrant smell of hookah adorned my presence. As I continued past the first bar the vibrations of the live salsa band began to energize my body. Suddenly there were no more concerns of the everyday, and the vivacious music became my nirvana.

I danced in a fiery spell, allowing every aspect of the music to indulge and move me. Suddenly, I felt a presence, the kind of presence that is only felt by the stare of another. I peered over my shoulder as I twirled and there he was. His presence was so powerful and his eyes were so pure, that I thought to myself. This is love at first site.
